Cherry and White game set for Saturday

Temple will hold its annual Cherry and White spring football game Saturday at Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

The scrimmage marks the final practice of the spring; rosters will be available later this weekend.

Players to watch include quarterback P.J. Walker and linebacker Tyler Matakevich. Walker started seven games as a freshman last season for the Owls and led them to almost 400 yards per game. Last season as a sophomore, Matakevich led the nation in solo tackles with 8.8 per game.

Before the game, second-year coach Matt Rhule will present the following annual awards:

Owl Club Academic Award: Presented to the graduating player with the highest grade-point averages.

Mark Bresani Award for Spirit: Presented to the player who demonstrates the most spirit and enthusiasm toward practice and the football program.

Gavin White Local 215 Award: Presented to the best or most improved nonscholarship player during spring practice.

Offensive/Defensive/Special Teams Most Improved Player: Presented to the most improved player on the three units during spring practice.
