A King of Prussia-based company is behind baseball’s new bat craze

Jared Smith, grew up in central Pennsylvania and cofounded Victus Sports, the King of Prussia-based sporting goods company that, with its subsidiary, Marucci Sports, manufactures bats for a majority of major league hitters. Just before the Phillies’ home opener, Smith drove 25 miles to Citizens Bank Park and delivered a few torpedo bats, in which the densest or fattest part has been shifted from the end of the bat toward the label, where the hardest contact is most often made. Then Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger hit back-to-back homers for the New York Yankees a couple weeks ago to open a nine-homer barrage. "As soon as that game ended, it was when the other players saw, when their games ended, they saw all the headlines. And then one player after another after another started reaching out," said Smith. "That's when we were like, wow, this is really going to take the league by storm.”
