Light snow possible in Philly area Friday; rain likely for St. Patrick’s Day parade

Yes, there’s a chance of snow in the forecast for the Philadelphia area for Friday.

But it won’t amount to much. “Underwhelming,” is how the National Weather Service describes projected accumulations of any snow that might fall starting in the afternoon.

The weather service says Philadelphia and points south are likely to see a rain/snow mix if precipitation materializes, while areas north and west of the city are expected to get just snow.

Any accumulation is expected to be less than an inch in the immediate Philadelphia area.

The daytime high will be about 39 degrees Friday, with an overnight low of 30 before the sun rises Saturday.

Come Saturday, temperatures will be warmer — a high of 45 degrees is expected — and mostly sunny. But a storm is expected to bring rain to the region Sunday, when Philadelphia is holding its St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a rain-or-shine event, a week earlier than the saint’s day. The high temperature Sunday is forecast to be an above-normal 60 degrees.

The start of the next work week looks to be free of precipitation, with a high of about 50 Monday.

Temperatures for the rest of the week look to remain mild, with highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s. And although rain is projected, the thermometer may creep past 60 degrees next Friday.

Going into the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, temperatures are forecast to stay in the upper 40s and low 50s, with a low chance of rain.
