My Background
Fitness columnist Art Carey is a local boy. He grew up on the Main Line, attended Episcopal Academy, and earned degrees from Princeton University and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. He joined The Inquirer in 1977 and worked as a beat reporter, covering Burlington County, N.J., and later the Pennsylvania suburbs. For 13 years, he was an editor at Inquirer Magazine, where he also wrote articles that were turned into books. He's a former wrestler and competitive long-distance runner. In his prime, he could bench press 300 pounds. He also ran more than 20 marathons, including 12 Bostons (best time: 2:50) as well as five 50-mile races. He's married to the Russian Princess and loves barbells, Maine and jeeps, not necessarily in that order. His column "Well Being" appears every other week in Health & Science.
