A person of interest is in custody and was being questioned by police as they continue to investigate the death of a North Philadelphia mother who was beaten with a pair of bricks over the weekend.

Police have not identified the person in custody, and no charges have been filed, according to Cpl. Jasmine Riley, a spokesperson for the department.

It is unclear whether the person in custody is the same person whose image was captured on surveillance footage and released by investigators Wednesday.

Police said they were searching for two people they believe are involved in the beating death of 45-year-old Keisha Furlow.

First responders discovered Furlow, a mother of four, in an alley near her North Opal Street home early Sunday morning, according to police.

Her face had been badly injured, and investigators believe two bloodied bricks found near her body were used in her slaying hours before, around 2 a.m.

Furlow was pronounced dead at the scene, and medical examiners determined she died from blunt force trauma.

Investigators say they’ve reviewed surveillance footage that shows a person kicking Furlow and beating her head with a brick. That person and another individual fled the scene with Furlow’s purse before ditching it nearby, they said.
