NFL players and Eagles fans send best wishes to Jalen Hurts, and others still have some questions

Fans, players, and even doctors shared some thoughts following the news that Hurts’ blood clots may end his season, not to mention the revelation about what led up to his start in London.

On Monday morning, the Eagles and Jalen Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn announced that after further medical testing, Hurts was found to have multiple blood clots in his lungs.

With the latest development, Hurts is now out indefinitely and could miss the remainder of the season. The news comes just days after the quarterback was placed on injured reserve, following last week’s announcement that he had a blood clot in his leg.

According to the statement, the former Super Bowl MVP will be put on blood thinners and is expected to make a “full recovery.” Following the latest Hurts’ developments, players and fans took to social media to wish the quarterback a speedy recovery.

Questioning the medical staff

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, Hurts didn’t sleep the night before the Jacksonville Jaguars game as a precaution.

“How committed is Jalen Hurts to football,” Pelissero wrote on X. “After initially being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in London, doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution, so he had been awake for roughly 36 hours when he started against the Jaguars, throwing for 220 yards and a TD.”

That update left journalists, fans, and even doctors questioning the Eagles medical staff.

“You shouldn’t be allowed to play a high risk contact sport after 36 hours of sleep deprivation,” sports medicine doctor Brian Sutterer posted on X. “That’s basically like playing drunk. That’s the real story here with Jalen Hurts and the medical decisions.”

Members of the national media were also concerned by the decision to let Hurts play on little rest.

“Jalen Hurts was overseas, under-rested and dealing with a blood clot while playing without key offensive weapons at his disposal and ran the ball only twice (maybe as a way of self-preservation knowing what he was dealing with),” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network wrote. “Just one question: Why?”

In awe of Hurts’ perseverance

With no sleep, Hurts completed 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ 19-17 loss to the Jaguars in London. Fans took the time to show their appreciation for the quarterback.
