What you should know
  1. The Eagles are bringing back tight end Dallas Goedert on a one-year deal that could also allow the Birds to trade A.J. Brown.

  2. The Birds have added three defenders in free agency – CB Jonathan Jones, LB Arnold Ebiketie, and CB Riq Wollen. Here's a full free agency tracker of all the Birds' moves.

  3. The dust has (almost) settled from free agency. Here’s how the Eagles could win their 2026 draft.

What an ideal Eagles draft could look like

The first big wave of NFL free agency has come and gone, and the Eagles haven’t added much to their 2026 roster. The team has signed cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Jonathan Jones, tight end Johnny Mundt, and edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie while also bringing back Grant Calcaterra and Dallas Goedert.

There is still uncertainty over A.J. Brown’s future, but for now, the Eagles could stand to add another safety and bring in some more offensive line and receiver depth before the NFL draft next month in Pittsburgh.

As their needs begins to crystalize, here’s what an ideal Eagles draft could look like:

7 Eagles players have yet to sign anywhere

Last week, the Eagles had 20 players set to become free agents.

The Birds decided to bring back three — punter Braden Mann and tight ends Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra.

Most have signed elsewhere, lead by Jaelan Phillips, whose short-lived stint in Philly earned a four-year, $120 million deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Dallas Goedert will be back next season

After a period of uncertainty, Dallas Goedert will be back for his ninth season in Philadelphia.

The 31-year-old tight end agreed to terms on a one-year deal to return to the Eagles, a league source confirmed to The Inquirer on Sunday.

Goedert was set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason for the first time in his career after playing on a restructured deal in 2025. However, an NFL source confirmed to The Inquirer that the void date on Goedert’s contract was initially pushed back to Friday, then to Monday, to give both sides more time to negotiate a new deal. The delay also prevented a $20.5 million dead cap charge at the start of the new league year last Wednesday.

Latest on A.J. Brown trade talks

So now that the Eagles have re-signed Dallas Goedert, what will happen with A.J. Brown?

Goedert's re-signing makes it more likely the Eagles will trade Brown, but there's no indication a move is imminent. At issue is a salary cap hit of around $43.5 million if the Eagles move Brown before June 1.

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday there were four teams Brown was interested in being traded to.

Darius Slay wants to return to the Eagles

“No team can call me but the Eagles."

That's what former Birds defensive back Darius Slay in a video he re-shared on his X account Sunday. It's unclear when the video was filmed – he's wearing a white Eagles shirt in the clip – but the message from the three-time Pro Bowler seems to be crystal clear.

The Pittsburgh Steelers released Slay in December after "the sides mutually agreed to part ways," according to ESPN. Slay was picked up on waivers by the Buffalo Bills, but never reported to the team.
