Eagles trade deadline news: Birds stand pat while division rivals make upgrades

At 4 p.m., the NFL trade deadline passed and — unless there's a late announcement of a last-minute trade that got in just under before the buzzer — it appears Howie Roseman and the Eagles like what they have.

While a handful of other deals were struck around the league, the Birds stood pat at the trade deadline for the second year in a row.

Another Pro Bowl cornerback is on the move. Earlier, it was Marshon Lattimore going from New Orleans to Washington, and now the Rams are reportedly sending two-time Pro Bowler Tre'Davious White to the Ravens, who desperately need help in the secondary as they're currently last in the NFL in passing yards allowed.

After reportedly trading for Jets wide receiver Mike Williams, it looks like the Steelers aren't done yet. They've also added pass rusher Preston Smith from the Packers, according to reports.

The Jets after having acquired wide receiver Davante Adams last month are reportedly trading away Mike Williams to the Steelers after 12 receptions in nine games for New York.

Make that two NFC East teams not named the Eagles making trades so far today. After the Cowboys acquired wideout Jonathan Mingo, the Washington Commanders have reportedly added four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the Saints.

Not long after Jerry Jones said on the radio in Dallas that the Cowboys would be looking to add a wide receiver before the trade deadline, the team did just that. They'll reportedly acquire Jonathan Mingo and a seventh-round pick from the Panthers for a fourth-round pick.

Dak Prescott injured his hamstring in the Cowboys' loss to the Falcons on Sunday and had already been ruled out for this week's game against the Eagles. On Tuesday, Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that the team plans to put Prescott on Injured Reserve, meaning he'll miss at least the next four games.

Despite that, Jones said his team is looking to add a wide receiver at the trade deadline. CeeDee Lamb injured his shoulder Sunday but appears to have avoided anything serious and could return in time for the Eagles game. Still, despite that and a 3-5 record, it sounds like Jones plans on being a deadline buyer.

Edge rusher Bryce Huff was one of Howie Roseman's big offseason additions, especially after trading Haason Reddick to the Jets. But Huff, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal, has struggled so far this season and has played a limited role, including just six snaps on Sunday against the Jaguars.

That's led to some speculation that, while the Eagles are potentially looking to add a pass rusher, other teams could be looking to pry Huff away from the Birds.

“There’s certainly going to be interest in guys like Bryce Huff, who was one of the Eagles big free agent signings and played all of six snaps [Sunday] after getting his hand apparently banged up in warmups or something," Tom Pelissero said Monday on The Rich Eisen Show. "That’s a name I would think is going to get some potential action. … Edge rusher is a premium position. There are a lot of teams that are going to be in that market."

Update: The Bears have announced this trade, making it official.

By all accounts, pass rusher is one of the top needs for the Eagles at the trade deadline. And Browns veteran defensive end Za'Darius Smith was a player many, including our own writers, identified as a potential target for the Eagles.

Well, you can take him off the board, according to multiple reports. And worse yet for the Birds, he's going to one of the best teams in the NFC: the Detroit Lions.

So what did Smith cost the needy Lions, who lost star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson earlier in the season? Not that much, according to reports ...
