Night gathers, and now Chris Long’s watch begins.

The Eagles defensive end hasn’t kept it a secret that he’s a huge Game of Thrones fan. With the show’s eighth and final season set to premiere Sunday on HBO, Long will be sending ravens to Sports Illustrated each week featuring his own recaps of the award-winning show.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Long’s Game of Thrones recaps will go live every Monday morning on after each of the season’s six episodes. (Our own television critic Ellen Gray will once again write Game of Throne recaps for Long confirmed the news on Twitter Thursday night.

In 2017, ahead of the premiere of the show’s seventh season, Long wrote a column for Sports Illustrated that opined about the shows characters, relayed an interesting internet fan theory, and revealed his favorite episode was the season six finale “The Winds of Winter.”

“The 25-minute sequence to open the episode was magic. It was art. The score, the action, the shock,” Long wrote about the episode (click here to read his full, spoiler-filled review).

The Eagles defender also revealed that he thinks the coolest character on the show is the sellsword Bronn, that Cersei Lannister is “just the right amount of crazy,” and that he isn’t much of a fan of Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke.

“Is it me or has Khaleesi gotten really full of herself? If her character had an Instagram, it would be insufferable,” Long wrote. “Every time she meets someone and unloads a 73-second self-righteous introduction, I keep hoping one of her dragons will fart out a fireball and engulf her.”

Long isn’t the only professional athlete who also happens to be a Game of Thrones nerd. The list includes Texas Rangers outfielder Hunter Pence, a former Phillie; Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love; and Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria. Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard managed to turn his fandom into a cameo during an episode in season seven.

Season eight of Game of Thrones premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO, and concludes on Sunday, May 19. The longest episode of the season will top out at an hour and 22 minutes.
