Flyers prospect Olle Lycksell dazzles at AHL All-Star skills competition
Lycksell, who has played six games with the Flyers this season, showcased some silky mitts during the "Breakaway Relay" portion of the night.

The shootout has been the furthest thing from the Flyers’ friend since it was instituted ahead of the 2005-06 season.
In fact, the Flyers’ .380 all-time winning percentage in shootouts ranks dead last among the NHL’s 32 teams; the Orange and Black have lost 103 of 166 games that have been decided by the skills competition. This season they have fared slightly better with a record of 3-3 in shootouts. But Sunday revealed that they might have a secret weapon up their sleeve.
While the Flyers were being shut out for the third-consecutive game — 2-0 to the Colorado Avalanche — one of their prospects was putting on a show at the AHL All-Star skills competition in Palm Desert, Calif.
That player was Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward and frequent Flyers call-up Olle Lycksell, who had social media abuzz after executing one of the slicker shootout moves you will ever see.
In the “Breakaway Relay” event, Lycksell glided in from the left side of the ice and made several stick handles before putting his stick between his legs. Instead of shooting between the legs, Lycksell faked the trick shot, pulling the puck forward and backhanding the puck past Calgary’s Devin Cooley and just under the bar.
The Swede wasn’t done, either, as he went 4-for-4 in the accuracy target competition on Sunday to help the East win the event. On Monday, Lycksell had a goal and an assist in the three-on-three tournament and also converted another pretty move in a shootout.
Lycksell, who has been a point-per-game player in the AHL over the last two-plus seasons, has struggled to replicate that production at the NHL level in his limited opportunities. The 25-year-old has no points in six games this season and one goal and six points in 32 career NHL games. But you can clearly see the natural skill he possesses.
And who knows, maybe the next time he’s up with the big club, John Tortorella will tap him on the shoulder for the shootout. After this weekend’s showing, how could you not?
