An outdoor summer dinner series will start next week at Headhouse Square to raise money for the restoration of the historic open-air marketplace and former fire engine house at 2nd and Lombard Street.

The monthly dinners are a partnership between Chef Alex Garfinkel’s Balboa Catering and the South Street Headhouse District to support the preservation of the building, which is also known as the Shambles. The dinners will be held at the building on communal tables.

The Shambles Supper Club series begins May 22 at 6:30 p.m. with “Soft Shells, IPAs and Chardonnays,” a five-course menu that includes hamachi crudo, crispy lamb belly and red velvet cake. The meal will feature dishes by Chris Boyce of Fishtown’s Aether Restaurant, along with guest speaker and beer expert Tara Nurin and wine expert Silvio Lelli of Nationwide Wine & Spirits. Philadelphia musician Kenn Kweder will perform as well.

Tickets are $95, including alcohol and gratuity but excluding tax. To buy tickets, see full menu details and learn about future dinners, go to balboacatering.com/upcoming-events.

Other dinners in the series will be held June 26, July 17, Aug. 7 and Sept. 11 and include collaborations with chefs from Lacroix at the Rittenhouse, the Oyster House, Hearthside and Fork.
