Penn Medicine appointed Craig Gronczewski CEO of Doylestown Health effective June 1, Penn announced Monday.

He will replace longtime Doylestown CEO Jim Brexler, who retired last week after overseeing the merger of the Bucks County health system into Penn last year.

Gronczewski, an emergency medicine doctor, is moving to Doylestown from Penn Medicine Princeton Health, where he has been chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs since December 2020.

Kevin Mahoney, CEO of University of Pennsylvania Health System, said in the announcement that Gronczewski “has demonstrated a strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and a collaborative leadership that drives lasting results.”

Penn’s acquisition of Doylestown Health, which is centered on a 245-bed hospital, filled in a geographic gap for the nonprofit health system between its Philadelphia hospitals and Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro Township, N.J.

Doylestown is Penn’s seventh hospital.
