Taj Thweatt, a 2020 three-star forward from Wildwood Catholic, announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he has committed to play basketball at West Virginia University. He recently took an official visit to the school.
Thweatt, The Inquirer’s 2018-19 South Jersey player of the year, averaged 20.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game on a Crusaders team that lost to nationally ranked Ranney School in the Non-Public South Group B final.
Thweatt becomes the second member in the Mountaineers’ 2020 class. He joins Isaiah Cottrell, a four-star forward out of Huntington Prep (W.Va.) who committed in June.
Thweatt had West Virginia, Florida, Temple and Penn State as his top four schools under consideration. His Wildwood Catholic teammate, Jahlil White, a three-star guard, committed to Temple in July. He had offers from Drexel, Bryant, Robert Morris and Bowling Green among others.
The Owls have been recruiting Thweatt hard since they had Wildwood Catholic participate in their team camp during the summer of 2018.
Temple hosted Thweatt and White for official visits in June with the hope of pairing them together at the next level.
