Despite initial reports of a gunshot-like noise, and the recovery of a gun at the scene, police said a 10-year-old boy initially believed shot Saturday night in North Philadelphia was not a shooting victim.

The boy was taken to Temple University Hospital about 10:20 p.m. after police received a report of a loud noise and a gunshot victim at a gathering on the 1300 block of West York Street, police said.

Doctors at Temple determined that the wounds were not from a gunshot, police said. The boy, who was transferred to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, had lacerations on his arm and stomach, but no life-threatening injuries, according to police.

“There was a bang, consistent with fireworks,” police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little said Sunday. “What occurred, we don’t know yet.”

She said officers had been trying to get witnesses to talk about what happened.
