3-alarm fire erupts at 16th and Oxford Streets near Temple University

The fire erupted at 1534 N. 16th St. at a vacant apartment building around 8:43 p.m. Firefighters continued to battle the blaze late into the night. The cause of the fire had not yet been determined.

A fire broke out at a vacant apartment building just before 9 p.m. Sunday near Temple University’s campus, and the Philadelphia Fire Department was warning residents to avoid the area.

“This fire at 16th & Oxford is now at 3 alarms, meaning 100+ PFD members are responding. Please avoid the area,” the Fire Department said on Twitter.

The blaze erupted at 1534 N. 16th St. in North Philadelphia around 8:43 p.m., officials said. Firefighters continued to battle the fire late into the night. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Residents were told to evacuate the entire block, according to news reports.
