Authorities investigating suspicious death in Northeast Philly

Authorities were investigating the death in the Somerton section of Northeast Philadelphia of a 62-year-old man who was found Friday night lying in a large amount of blood inside a house with separate fires in the basement and second floor.

Shortly after 7 p.m., a neighbor reported smelling smoke coming from the house in the 11000 block of Greiner Road and discovered the man’s body inside, police said. Firefighters responded and extinguished the fires.

The Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the fires and the city’s Medical Examiner’s Office was investigating the cause of the man’s death, authorities said.
