A guilty verdict was delivered on Thursday in two-month criminal trial in which federal prosecutors laid out extensive evidence seeking to prove that a group of five men committed 60 carjackings and two murders in Philadelphia, part of a gang-related plot to steal cars and ship them to Africa.
U.S Attorney David Metcalf said after the verdict that the case was perhaps the largest carjacking ring ever prosecuted by the Department of Justice. “This was a case of [an] unimaginable scale of dread and destruction,” he said.
