Cartoon: Philly’s tragic March Madness
We must do everything we can to stop gun violence.
Enough. One man dead and five others wounded when gunmen open fire at an illegal “pop-up” party. A 2-year old girl found in Tacony beaten to death. Best friends shot and killed over an Instagram feud they had nothing to do with. Temple University graduate Milan Loncar, murdered while out walking his dog in Brewerytown earlier this year.
As of this writing, there have been 109 homicides in 2021, a 26% increase from 2020. Mayor Jim Kenney said this year is “on track to be the most violent year we’ve experienced in our lifetimes.”
I’ve been fortunate to live and work in Philly for a half-century now. Do we now have such little regard for human life? Feeling disrespected should not end in bloodshed, yet it too often does.
Yes, we must do everything we can to help stop gun violence. Some officials are filing lawsuits against gun manufacturers. Don’t stop there. Allow victims to file lawsuits against progressive district attorneys for enforcing failed, radical policies that place its citizens at harm. Criminals who continually violate gun laws should not get a pass to wreak havoc on our streets.
It’s time to end the violence and stop the madness.
