You can probably add Seranthony Dominguez to the long list of Phillies’ relievers who will not be returning this season. Manager Gabe Kapler said Saturday that the 24-year-old righthander experienced more discomfort in his injured elbow during a throwing session this week.

Kapler said Dominguez will be examined next week by team physician Michael Ciccotti, and a decision will be made about how to proceed in the pitcher’s rehab. Kapler said there is no timetable for Dominguez’s return, but with just 28 games remaining it is highly unlikely he will make it back this season.

Dominguez, who had a terrific rookie season last year, has pitched in only 27 games this season. He has been sidelined since June 5 when he experienced discomfort during an outing in San Diego.

The Phillies have already lost relievers David Robertson, Tommy Hunter, Pat Neshek, Victor Arano and Juan Nicasio to season-ending injuries, and Kapler said Saturday that Adam Morgan is also “likely out for the season” with a left flexor strain that sent him to the injured list in early August.

The one Phillies reliever who could return in September is righthander Edubray Ramos. Out since mid-July with a shoulder impingement, Ramos is currently pitching on a rehab assignment at high-A Clearwater.

Kapler also said that righthander Jake Arrieta underwent successful surgery Thursday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. Arrieta has rejoined the team and expects to be ready to pitch again in spring training next year.
