PSU considers 3.89 percent room and board hike

Officials at Penn State board meeting recommend 3.89 percent hike in room and board.

Penn State students face a 3.89 percent hike in room and board on average next year under a proposal put forth by administrators on Thursday.

Under that proposal, students in a standard double room with the most common meal plan would pay $5,075 per semester in 2015-16, an increase of $190 per semester.

Administrators cited rising food and utility costs, as well as payroll and other increases as the reasons for the hike.

The full board of trustees will vote on the proposal on Friday. Tuition rates will be discussed at a meeting later in the spring.
