Councilman tries again to get oversight on bicycle lanes

Councilman Bill Greenlee is again trying to get more Council oversight over where bicycle lanes go in the city.

Greenlee today revived a bill that would require all new bicycle lanes be approved by City Council. Similar legislation languished in committee last year after facing opposition from the city's cycling advocates and the Nutter administration.

Currently the administration can decide where to put bike lanes without Council input.

"We're not trying to hold up bike lanes. We're not against bike lanes," said Greenlee, who said he just wanted more public debate over where the lanes go.
