Street Talks with Brady About Mayoral Interest

Local Democratic Party boss, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady had coffee with former Mayor John Street this morning to talk about Street's interest in the mayor's race.

"He told me he's absolutely seriously considering running as an independent for mayor," Brady said.

Brady stressed that Mayor Nutter was the party's Democratic nominee. But he said he didn't ask Street to get out of the way.

"He said he wouldn't make any decisions without consulting me," Brady said. "We'll continue to talk."

Street, a two-term Democratic mayor who preceded Nutter in office, changed his registration to indpendent in April. As an independent candidate, he would need at least 1,845 signatures on nominating petitions by Aug. 1 to land a spot on the ballot.
