Cops searching for suspects in convenience store robbery

Police are searching for two men who are wanted in connection with an armed robbery and assault at a convenience store in Nicetown on April 28.

A man walked into the Irma Mini Market on Brunner Street near Wayne Avenue around 8:15 a.m. and asked a cashier about an item before he walked back out of the store.

About five minutes later, police said the same man walked back into the store asking about the same item and suddenly grabbed the cashier, covered his mouth and wrestled him to the floor.

While the suspect was wrestling with the cashier, a second man entered the store and ran behind the counter to try opening the cash register.

The man could not get the cash register to open, police said. He picked the register up from the counter and both suspects fled on foot.

The suspects were described as two black men, both about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. One was clean shaven and was wearing a gray hoodie with white letters on the front, blue jeans and black sneakers.

The second man was wearing a blue hoodie, dark pants and had his face partially covered by a white mask.

Tipsters are asked to call 215-686-TIPS (8477), text a tip to PPD TIP (773847) or reach the department online.
