Man shot during attempted armed robbery

Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery in Frankford that left a 46-year-old man hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday night.

Chief Inspector Scott Small gave this account:

The victim was walking along Bridge Street near Horrocks when a man approached him with a gun.

He refused to give the suspect any cash or valuables, and the man shot him once in his abdomen.

The suspect fled the scene on foot without taking anything from the victim, who was rushed to the Albert Einstein Medical Center and was listed in serious condition as of 9 p.m.

The victim described the suspect as a black man who was wearing khaki pants, a cream colored shirt, a black jacket and a black hat.

He was last seen running west along Bridge Street.

There were no witnesses, and no arrests were made.
