Neighbors invited to exchange guns for gift cards

The Philadelphia Safety Network, in partnership with the police department, is offering ShopRite gift cards valued at $100 each to neighbors who turn in a gun during the Goods for Guns exchange Saturday.

Participants are invited to exchange their unwanted guns for gift cards at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center, on Chelten Avenue near Ardleigh Street, in East Germantown.

Guns will also be collected at the Myers Recreation Center, on 58th Street near Kingsessing Avenue.

The gun exchange runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Philadelphia Safety Network does community outreach programs to educate school children and at-risk populations about gun violence, and has collected over 5,000 guns in Philadelphia since 2007, police said.
