Updated: to reflect latest details from police

A mother shot and killed a robber in Oak Lane Tuesday night after he reportedly pistol-whipped her son during an attempted armed robbery, police said.

Police responded to the Admas Run apartment complex on Godfrey Avenue near Crescentville Road around 9:15 p.m., and found a 19 year-old man shot once in his chest at the bottom of the stairs near a basement, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:24 p.m. with his gun beside his body.

The mother, 43, called 911 saying that she shot the man who repeatedly hit her son over the head with a gun, said Police Inspector Scott Small.

The victim was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center to be treated for graze wounds to the head.

The police have the mother and the man's girlfriend, 23, in custody. Small said the mother had a permit to carry a firearm and there were no charges filed against her as of Tuesday night.
The scene was still taped-off by police as of 11:30 p.m.
