Powelton Village coffee shop robbed at gunpoint

Cops are searching for a gun-toting man who robbed the Green Line Café on Lancaster Avenue near 36th Street around 4:20 p.m. and fled the scene with about $500 Monday afternoon.

Cops are searching for a gun-toting man who robbed the Green Line Café on Lancaster Avenue near 36th Street around 4:20 p.m. and fled the scene with about $500 Monday afternoon.

He fled the coffee shop on foot and police in the Southwest Detective Division took in a man for questioning soon after who fit the suspect's description. The man was released Monday night after police determined that he wasn't the suspect.

The Powelton Village café closed early Monday afternoon, and two officers from the 16th District sat inside filling out reports while the unidentified man was being questioned at Southwest Detective Division headquarters on 55th Street near Pine.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 20s who is about 5'10. Police said he was wearing a grey hoodie and a black mask over his face.

The suspect in Monday's robbery is likely the same man who robbed a Green Line Café on Locust Street near 45th  on Thursday, said Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division.

In that incident, a man approached the counter around 9:35 p.m. brandishing a gun and demanding money, police said. The description of the suspect the same, except the man was wearing a green jacket over a black hoodie.
