This weekend: Block party on the Parkway for the Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund

The Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund, set up to raise money to build a new memorial to fallen police and firefighters in Franklin Square, is officially kicking off its fundraising with a block party on the Parkway Sunday.

The Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund is throwing its inaugural fundraising event this Sunday -- a block party on the Parkway sponsored by two area Irish pubs.

The fund was set up last year to start raising money to build a new memorial to fallen police and firefighters at Franklin Square. Now, they're officially on the road to meeting their goal.

Con Murphy's and Tir Na Nog are sponsoring the bash, set to start at 2 p.m. on the Ben Franklin Parkway between 16th and 18th streets. Five bucks gets you in and buys your first drink, and the party goes until 7 p.m.

Bob Bedard, spokesman for the fund, said they're hoping to raise about $1 million via the party and other fundraising.
