High school chefs take to the stove to compete

At the annual Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) Cooking Competition for College Scholarships, 30 high schoolers representing Philadelphia, Delaware and Chester County public high schools re-created the intensity of a four-star restaurant kitchen as they faced off in a savory and sweet challenge at Drexel University.

Competitors on March 26 had two hours to prepare a French meal of hunter's chicken with tourne potatoes and dessert crepes with pastry cream and chocolate sauce.

Judges were chefs Chip Roman, Barbie Marshall, Robert Bennett, Ben Thomas, Jason Cichonski, Valerie Erwin, Peter Scarola, and Ben Burger and C-CAP's Susan Robbins.

Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-­CAP) is a national nonprofit that prepared at-risk high school students for college and for careers in the the restaurant and hospitality industry.
