How to roll for free on National Cheesesteak Day

National Cheesesteak Day, which sounds like an oxymoron given the sandwich's Philadelphia roots, will be marked by giveaways and specials on Friday, March 24.

(On a Friday during Lent - a quirk of the calendar that has raised at least some eyebrows.)

Tony Luke Jr. will give away cheesesteaks from noon to 6 p.m. (or while supplies last) at his Tony Luke's shop in the Crossings at Twin Oaks in Sicklerville (663 Cross Keys Rd.)

At Andalé Latino Grill (144 E. Street Rd. in Feasterville), Reza and Mirna Ghassemi have developed the chimichurri cheesesteak burrito, which contains grilled, sliced steak, chimichurri sauce, a blend of Monterey Jack and mild Cheddar cheeses, caramelized onions, pico de gallo, pickled cabbage and aji sauce. On March 24, everyone who dines in will receive one comp small burrito. Here's a backgrounder on Andalé, whose menu is inspired by 21 Spanish-speaking countries.

Cousins Bill and Evelyn Balis of Adelphia Restaurant will roll back the price of their cheesesteaks to $4.95, which was the price on the menu when their fathers opened at 1750 Clements Bridge Road in Deptford in 1987. In addition to the cheesesteak rollback, they will offer comp mini-cheesesteaks at the bar during happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m.   

O'Donnell's Restaurant & Bar (401 N. Broadway, Gloucester City) will give out samples of its Heavyweight Fight "Belly Buster" cheesesteak from 3 to 7 p.m. with a purchase.  The Belly Buster, served on a seeded roll, has ribeye steak, roast pork, Cheddar cheese, grilled onion, roasted garlic spread, lettuce, tomato and onion.

Dakota Pizza (333 E. Lancaster Ave., Wynnewood) is offering buy one, get one cheesesteaks, limit one offer per customer, till closing.

Fat Jack's BBQ will knock off $1 from the price of a brisket cheesesteak at its locations at 8120 Old York Rd. in Elkins Park, and in Northeast Philadelphia at 
6391 Oxford Ave. and 10090 Roosevelt Blvd.
