Oyster House, Fair Food to host Local Seafood Week

Summer is in full swing and New Jersey's aquaculturists are slinging some of the best shellfish around — a fact that Oyster House will be celebrating with Local Seafood Week later this month.

It's all going down August 17 through August 22, with Oyster House offering oysters (duh) and clams from six of the areas best shellfish growers. Participating producers include Forty North Oysters, Atlantic Cape Fisheries, Betsy's Cape Shore Salts, Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm, Dias Creek, and Heritage Shellfish.

Guests at Oyster House during Local Seafood Week will have a couple of options to chose from as far as deals go. The first is a half-dozen order of local oysters and clams for $14, served raw on the half shell with cocktail sauce and lemon. The second, the Local Pearl Platter, includes six local oysters, six local clams, scallop ceviche, and New Jersey Bluefish dip for $38.

And lest you think they're being "shellfish," Oyster House is not. In fact, 50 percent of proceeds from Local Seafood Week will go to nonprofit Fair Food, which promotes the importance of family farms.

Be sure to get there quick, though — local shellfish is evidently something of a hot-ticket item these days.

"We've seen such a demand for these local shellfish, the growers can't even produce enough, fast enough," says Oyster House's Sam Mink. "We are so thrilled to share these incredible local foods with our Philadelphia guests."
