Healthy family recipe: Slow cooker applesauce

Everyone loves applesauce and it tastes even better when you make it yourself...in a crockpot. Take advantage of time saving crockpot cooking during this busy time of year. This recipe will fill your home with the smell of fragrant apples, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Gala, McIntosh and Golden Delicious are a great choice for this recipe.

Slow Cooker Applesauce

Ingredients:

  1. 8 medium apples, washed and cored (skin left on)

  2. ¼ cup of water

  3. ½ tablespoon of fresh lemon juice

  4. 2 teaspoons cinnamon

  5. 1 teaspoon ground clove

  6. ½ teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:

1. Chop the apples and place into the slow cooker. Pour in water and lemon juice and add the spices.

2. Cook on LOW setting for 6 to 8 hours. When finished, turn off the slow cooker and mash apples with a fork.

Serving size: ½ cup

Servings per recipe: about 8 servings
