City Councilman Jim Kenney and city building inspectors line up on the side of union workers who say Pestronk Bros.'s partly nonunion workforce is working without proper safety guarantees. Hearing postponed til June 13. Pestronks are also renovating and doubling rents at Rittenhouse Hill in Northwest Philly. More from Daily News' Valerie Russ here.
When last I wrote about the Pestronks and their union dispute, Mike Pestronk complained that he pays his (mostly Philly-based, African American) carpenters around $35 an hour. I told him I'd like to meet some of these workers and write their stories. Still waiting.
