RJMetrics to double staff by end of 2015
Word of mouth works best, says RJMetrics boss Robert Moore
RJMetrics, the Center City cloud-based data-analytics firm, will nearly double staff, to 150 from the current 80, by the end of next year, says chief executive Robert Moore. He says the firm has more than 300 business customers, and expects to sign a lot more as it applies the $16.5 million invested by backers August Capital, Trinity Ventures and SoftTech VC in its latest fundraising round.
How to find programmers, tech marketing and support staff in a tough market? I've seen RJMetrics ads on Septa suburban trains. Moore in the past gave away "a free iPad to any programmer who could make it past our technical screens -- even if they don't take the job." But, Moore now says he has found, "top-tier candidates" are motivated more by "the ability to make a real impact" at a growing company, he adds. "90% of our new hires come from people who found us and not the other way around."
If the software tech market is tight in Philadelphia, "it's even worse in cities like San Francisco and New York," where there's a lot more demand, relative ot the local supply, Moore concludes.
