Not A Holmes Run

Box Office Slow Ahead of Huge Christmas Movie Week

The sequels to "Sherlock Holmes" and Alvin and the Chipmunks" disappointed, making far less than their predecessors. "Holmes" finished first at $40 million, but the telling number looks like the $13 million made by "Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol" at just 420 locations -- the movie goes much wider this Wednesday.

Here's how the week maps out -- David Fincher's fine version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" opens in select theaters tomorrow evening. "MI" opens Wednesday along with Steven Spielberg" stop motion animated "Tin Tin."

Friday, it's "Tinker Tailor Solder Spy," Cameron Crowe directing Matt Damon in "We Bought a Zoo," and the neo-silent movie "The Artist."

Saturday, it's Spielberg again with the WWI drama "War Horse," also the sci-fi thriller "Darkest Hour."
