APP ONLY: Rooting guide for Eagles fans

All eyes will be on New Meadowlands Stadium when the Eagles take on the Giants in a huge NFC East matchup at 1 p.m.

But for Eagles fans, there are plenty of reasons to do some scoreboard-watching this week.

The outcome of today's game will determine what the Birds are shooting for in the final two weeks.

If they win, sights will be set on earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs. That means rooting for a Bears loss Monday night against the Vikings. Is that likely to happen? No. But the Falcons look like a good bet to earn the top seed, meaning the Eagles will have to beat out Chicago or Green Bay for that No. 2 seed. Both teams own the tiebreak against the Eagles. The Bears are 9-4, and the Packers 8-5.

If the Eagles lose today, the focus shifts to earning a wild-card berth. The Saints, at 10-3, are in great shape to earn one of the two spots. But Eagles fans should still put their support behind the Ravens, who host New Orleans today.

There is also Packers-Patriots Sunday night. Green Bay looks like it's in trouble at 8-5, and will be without Aaron Rodgers.

And finally, the Bucs host the 3-10 Lions. A Tampa Bay win and an Eagles loss would make the two teams tied at 9-5 going into the final week of the season. So as hopeless as it might sound, Eagles fans should get behind Detroit this afternoon too.
