More bad news than good for Eagles

As the Eagles prepare for Monday night's game against the Browns, they got some good news and some bad news from other teams contending for an NFC wild card spot Sunday afternoon.

The good news first. The Redskins appear to be falling apart. After

, Washington went down to the Bengals, 20-13, this afternoon. The Redskins found themselves in a 17-0 hole early in the second quarter against a Cincinnati team that was 1-11-1 coming in. Washington came back to cut the deficit to 17-10 at halftime, but they never got any closer. At 7-7, the Redskins are pretty much out of the playoff picture, having lost five of their last six. The Eagles travel to Washington in Week 16.

Now the bad news. The Falcons held on for a 13-10 victory over the Bucs. With the win, Atlanta improved to 9-5, the same record as Tampa Bay. If the Falcons and Bucs win out, and Carolina wins the division, the Eagles would be on the outside looking in for a wild-card spot even if they win out.

In simpler terms, the most likely postseason scenario for the Eagles is to win out and get either a Bucs or a Falcons loss.

The Bucs host San Diego and Oakland in the final two weeks of the season. Tampa Bay is 6-0 at home.

The Falcons play at the Vikings next week and then host the Rams in Week 17. Atlanta did not play particularly well today, turning it over three times and getting a punt blocked. But the Falcons stopped Tampa on the first possession of overtime, and rode the legs of

(32 carries, 152 yards) to set up the game-winning field goal.

What's next if you're a Birds fan? Root for a Cowboys loss tonight against the Giants. And then get ready for tomorrow's matchup against the Browns. And if you think that game is a gimme, I direct your attention to today's Lions-Colts game. Indy was a 17-point favorite against winless Detroit, but the teams were tied at 21 with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Colts ended up scoring the final 10 points for a 31-21 victory, but it wasn't pretty.

The Eagles are 14-point favorites tomorrow night. As always, I'll be hosting philly.com's live chat during the action.
