Jeremy Affeldt tells deeply personal story in new book
“I had homophobia," says the enlightened Giants reliever, "and now I don’t.”
Affeldt, a Christian, discusses this time of his life in his new book, in which he also describes his evolution from a hotel recluse to functioning human being in this particular area. He wound up meeting some gay people who were not sinful illustrations drawn out of ignorance, but actual people, and suddenly became aware his mindset was the wrong one.
"I see more San Francisco as a city of love and a city of passion and compassion," Affeldt says now. "It's unbelievable this city. To see that and to have my heart change as a city I didn't ever want to come to, to a city that I'm so thankful I'm going to be part of for a long time."
While his Christianity remains strong, his interpretation has refreshingly shifted.
