Philadelphia ranked 76th most friendly city for pet owners

Apartment listing behemoth Zumper has written an algorithm to rank cities around the United States based on how friendly they are to pet owners. Philadelphia ranked 76 on a list of 95, falling far behind St. Petersburg, Florida, Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

So how did they rank them? Based on performance in three categories: "PetApt," which translates to the percentage of listings in the city that are pet friendly; "ease of owning a pet," which translates to values for pet insurance premiums, pet shops and veterinarians per capita; and "play," which considers dog parks and green space per capita as well as good and bad weather days.

While Philadelphia performed well in the "play" category, pet-friendly listings and the "ease" category did not fare so well.  Herewith, three apartments in town and some friendly pet suggestions.

1919 Market Street
A one-bedroom apartment here will run you between $1,922 and $3,194, but will include skyline views, a screening room and club room as well as individual wine storage and a rooftop infinity pool. Pets can take advantage of the in-house pet spa too.
Recommended pet: Bruiser, a 9-year-old pug/beagle mix. He'll be the ideal roommate and is the perfect size for a one-bedroom apartment.

320 Walnut Street
A one-bedroom here starts at $2,050, and incudes amenities like a fitness center and an online portal for paying rent and requesting maintenance. Units also include washers and dryers.
Recommended pet: Samson is yorkie who is perfectly sized to a small apartment and to the tight, cobblestone lanes in Old City.

The Touraine
A large, one-bedroom at the Touraine comes in at $2,515 a month and includes newly refurbished digs as well as one of Center City's most swank lobbies. A fitness center and business area will be added soon.
Recommended pet: Betty is a sophisticated lady poodle who will be quiet enough for your neighbors but classy enough to pass muster in this high-end building.
