Maikel Franco reports to winter ball

Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco has been added to the roster of his winter ball team in the Dominican Republic, Gigantes del Cibao.

Franco, 23, had said at the end of the Phillies season that he planned to play about a month of winter ball. He played 80 games for the Phillies last season but missed most of August and all of September with a fractured left wrist. He returned for the team's final three games.

Next season will be Franco's first full campaign as a major leaguer. He impressed over 304 at-bats as a rookie, hitting .280 with 14 home runs and an .840 on-base plus slugging percentage.
