Report: Sixers acquire McGee from Nuggets

JaVale McGee is the newest 76er, according to reports. But for how long?

The Sixers acquired the center from the Denver Nuggets along with a protected first-round pick, and the rights to Nigerian forward Chu Chu Maduabum via the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. In exchange, the Sixers sent to rights to Turkish guard Cenk Akyol to the Nuggets.

McGee makes $11.25 million this season and will make $12 million next season. The pick is Top 18-protected this year and Top 15-protected next year.

The 7-foot, 240-pounder was sidelined most of last season because of a stress fracture in his left tibia. He has played in only 17 games this season because of injury and illness. He is averaging 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 11 minutes this season.

The Sixers had $19 million in salary-cap space and one roster spot available to take on a contract. They could waive or buy out the 27-year-old's salary.
