Take your workout to the beach this summer

According to Sandy Weston, founder of Weston Fitness, the beach is a great place to work out, because the sand and water give you extra resistance, and when you get all sweaty, you can just take a quick dip in the ocean!

Picture this: You are lying on the beach, lulled to sleep by the steady lapping of the waves and the heat of the sun on your face. Feels like heaven, right? It is hard to think about revving up for a sweaty workout when you are in vacation mode, but we all know that we will eventually pay for skipping workouts and for all those meals dining out. Instead of having to pull yourself out of vacation slump, when you come back to reality, try these easy workouts that you can do on the beach from Sandy Weston, founder of Weston Fitness.

According to Weston, the beach is a great place to work out, because the sand and water give you extra resistance, and when you get all sweaty, you can just take a quick dip in the ocean.

"The beach is your friend and it is a great place to get a workout. I've done and given numerous fun workouts at the Jersey Shore. All you need to take is your body and a band if you would like because they are light and portable!" she added.

Here are some easy beach moves that will keep you in shape:

1. Run intervals on the beach in bare feet in and out of the water. Run a minute, walk a minute, it is a great way to add resistance from the sand and water. The deeper you go into the water the harder it is to walk. You'll get a cardio workout and your lower body will also get a great resistance workout.

2. Opening and closing your legs as you stand in the sand is a great inner and outer thigh workout- the deeper the sand the harder it is!

3. Don't forget you can do sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, dips and other exercises just like you would at home! If you bring a resistance band or two you can do some upper body exercises by looping it around your ankle.

Jordan Hankins, the training director at Weston Fitness, also has some great tips for working out on your vacation this year. In the video below, he demonstrates how to do squat jumps and planks in the sand so that you get a total body workout.
