NXT television report (12/23/15): Sami Zayn returns

Although this week's episode of NXT was merely a show full of matches that were taped before its live special in London last week, the program did have some significance as it marked the return of former NXT champion Sami Zayn.

That's right, Zayn finally made his return to television after suffering a shoulder injury earlier this year that required him to undergo surgery.

There were other matches on the card, but this program was centered mostly around Zayn's return.

In his return, Zayn went against Tye Dillinger in a match where ring rust didn't seem to be a factor. With the fans in London firmly behind him, Zayn defeated Dillinger in his first television match since May.

Zayn wasn't the only fan-favorite to take part in a match, as Jason Jordan and Chad Gable took part in a fatal four-way match against The Hype Bros, The Vaudevillains and Blake and Murphy.

Jordan and Gable were by far the most popular tag team in the match and after a slew of suplexes from Jordan, the entertaining duo came out on top.

Elias Sampson also came out on top in his television debut against Bull Dempsey. The match itself was short and uneventful, but it did leave me intrigued as to what direction NXT will go in with Sampson's character.

With that said, here are the full match results:

- Chad Gable & Jason Jordan def. The Vaudevillians, The Hype Bros & Blake & Murphy

- Elias Sampson def. Bull Dempsey

- Sami Zayn def. Tye Dillinger
