A lot to love during Philly LOVE Your Park Week
Sometimes you just want to give your park a hug. (No? Just me?) Luckily, the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia’s Department of Parks and Recreation have teamed up to bring us LOVE Your Park Week, a full seven days, starting Saturday, May 10, devoted to—you guessed it—the city’s parks.

Kicking off the festivities is Saturday, May 10's LOVE Your Park Day. Participating parks throughout the city—including Rittenhouse Square Park, Schuylkill River Park and Franklin D. Roosevelt Park—will welcome volunteers bright and early (9 a.m. for most locations) to each location for a day of TLC, outdoors style.
Head to Carpenter's Woods for tree planting, nature walks and other leisurely outdoor activities during the LOVE Your Park Spring Fest on Saturday, May 10. Folks will start planting at 8 a.m., so get there early. If the weather puts a damper on the fun, the rain date will be the following Saturday, May 17.
After you've gotten your hands dirty, take a load off at Hagert Street Playground for a celebration from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for LOVE Your Playground Day, also on Saturday, May 10. Let the kids do their thing while parents can shop the nursery sale, where vegetable seedlings will be for sale for $1 each.
Bring mom to Washington Avenue Green for a Mother's Day bash, where there will be crafts, activities for mom and lunch, starting at 11 a.m.
Don't' forget to bring your camera to document the work you've done, as the Friends of Wissahickon are sponsoring a photo contest for the best pictures that display "a day in the life of the Wissahickon." Get snapping—the deadline is Saturday, May 31.
Walk and talk gardens at Ned Wolf Park's garden lecture. Attendees to this one-hour talk, starting at 6:30 p.m., will learn how to grow their own perennials while strolling through the award-winning gardens at the park on Tuesday, May 13.
The first free summer concert of the year at Kahn Park goes down Wednesday, May 14 featuring five-piece soul and rhythm band Zydeco-A-Go-Go. Take in the sounds, bust a move and soak in the evening from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Fairhill Square's Festival de Primavera honors the vernal equinox with nature-themed activities, games and arts and crafts on Friday, May 16. Bring the whole family to kick off the weekend at 4 p.m. Pack your dinner and make your way to Cedar Park for an evening picnic, where from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., visitors can eat to the views of spring twilight.
For a day of pony rides, face-painting, pizza, park clean-up and more, spend your Saturday on May, 17 at Marconi Plaza for their LOVE Your Park Festival. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and continues throughout the day and night for Relay for Life South Philadelphia. Other parks in the city are also holding festivals, like McPherson Square Park and Clark Park, where their party starts a little later (4 p.m.) and features live music, food and a beer garden.
