Boozy Black Friday: Drink specials offered in Philadelphia

Black Friday isn't just about getting that Kindle on a discounted price; it's also about food and beverage deals too. Take a break from the crazy lines and bag handling and grab yourself a drink from one of these locations on Friday, Nov. 28. As if you didn't party enough this week.

Black out (not literally, remember…pace yourself!) with Kraftwork (541 E. Girard Ave.) and Sidecar Bar (22nd Christian St.) as they offer a special Black Friday brunch themed around Thanksgiving leftovers. Not only can guests chow down on brunch items such as turkey sausage pot pie, biscuits and gravy, crispy mashed potatoes and country ham Benedict, but they can also wash down brunch with a special dark beer list featuring selected porters and stouts. Beer menus to each bar are different. Kraftwork opens at 10:30 a.m. and Sidecar opens at 9 a.m.

If you woke up at 5 a.m. to start your Black Friday shopping, by 10 a.m. all that running around may be calling for a much needed beverage. White Dog Café (200 W. Lancaster Ave.) opens its doors early and offers guests $4 mimosas, Bloody Marys, and red/white sangrias.

Bru Craft & Wurst (1316 Chestnut St.) teams up with beer aficionado Dan Conway for an exclusive tasting of rare and some commonly found dark drafts during Fade to Black Friday. Some selected beers for the afternoon include Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, Left Hand Brewing Co. Fade to Black, Oskar Blues Ten Fiddy, Troegs Impending Descent, and more. Bar snacks and sandwich specials will be available too. The pouring starts at 11 a.m.

If you know anything about Dogfish Head and Sam Calagione, you know his beers are excellent and pretty exploratory (scrapple beer!). Beginning at 11 a.m., Johnny Brenda's (1201 Frankford Ave.) is hosting Dogfish Head Barroom Blitz that will feature an extensive and exclusive list of pours from the Delaware brewery. Some beers to expect are 120 Minute IPA, Positive Contact (beer with cider), Theobroma (dark beer), Bitches Brew (imperial stout), and more.

Starting at 11 a.m., Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th St.) sticks to its darker side by offering Black Friday specials on, well, black beers. The tap list for the morning/evening is as follows: Allagash Black, Founders Dark Penance, Desthil Black Angel, Sprecher Black Bavarian, Free Will Black Friday Quad.

Have an extra can of cranberries from Thanksgiving? Don't stash it away for next year; donate the can for a good cause as Boxing Day starts at Memphis Taproom (2331 E. Cumberland St.) through Dec. 26. Besides the official start of Boxing Day at the bar, in honor of Black Friday, MTR will have a hefty dark beer selection until 3 p.m. Some selections for the morning include Dogfish Head World Wide Stout, Victory Red Thunder, Jolly Pumpkin Madrugada, Struise Black Albert (2013), and tons more. Brunch starts at 11:30 a.m.

Hey, since it is Black Friday, you might as well drink a black beer in honor of this somewhat of a holiday. Beginning at 1 p.m., City Tap House (3925 Walnut St.) offers a wide-variety of black ales ranging in rare finds to pub favorites. Here are some to expect: Allagash Black, Founders Breakfast Stout, Flying Dog Mint Chocolate Stout, and Neshaminy Creek Coconut Milk Stout. Don't say all dark beers taste the same.

It's 3 p.m. and shopping is finished. If you're around the Center City area, take a break from carrying those bags and sit down for a drink at Aldine Restaurant (1901 Chestnut St.) as they offer half-off drafts, $5 house white or red wine, and food specials such as $2 oysters, $3 popcorn, and $5 rabbit rillettes crostini.

Sometimes after a long day of running around, it's best to put your jets on cruise control. Boarding at 7 p.m., the Spirit of Philadelphia (401 S. Columbus Blvd.) is offering a buy-one-get-one half off deal for the Black Friday featuring a full service bar, and menu items such as salad, short ribs, tilapia, dessert, and more.
