From local chef tastings to international cheese pairings from mongers, here are 5 good reasons you should eat well.
Taste the grandest flavors of Philly on Tuesday, June 23 as WHYY (150 N. 6th St.) media presents Best of the Chefs. This culinary celebration will feature a two-hour tasting menu (tapas style) that includes fare from cafes, bakeries, diners, and restaurants. After you're done sampling, you then will get a chance to vote for winners in the Best Dessert, Best Bite, and Best of the Chefs categories. The event kicks off at 7 p.m.
Rockstars of the cheese world get together to show off their wedges on Thursday, June 25, during Di Bruno Bros.' (1730 Chestnut St.) Legend Series Event The World Tour. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., six cheese makerslocated throughout the world will guide guests through a tasting menu featuring an array of cheeses such as Gouda (Holland), Tunworth cheese (United Kingdom), Manchego (Spain), and more. Besides the cheese, beers from Brooklyn Brewery will be available. The dinner is $75 per person.
Celebrate the first official weekend of the summer at The Schuylkill Center of Environmental Education (8480 Hagys Mill Rd.) during its 50th Annual Picnic on Saturday, June 27. Bring a blanket, or chair and enjoy an evening of live music, art, games, and a barbecue from the folks at Weaver's Way Co-op. The event is from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and is $15.
Pig out at Amada (217-219 Chestnut St.) on Sunday, June 28 as the restaurant chefs host a Spanish barbecue. The three-course feast is offered from 1 to 10 p.m. and features endless suckling pig, spinach salad, roasted fingerling potatoes, cochinillo cookies, and more. The dinner is $55 per person.
In recognition of the Tall Ships festival, The Olde Bar (125 Walnut St.) will offer a clambake brunch on Sunday, June 28. Beginning at noon through 3 p.m., enjoy menu offerings such as cherrystone clams, Cape Cod mussels, grilled Jersey corn, saffron paella with sofrito and scallion, and more. The meal is $40 per person.
