Fox News might have been hacked with 'STUFF YO'

So, if you happened to stumble across the Fox News website on Tuesday afternoon, you might have bugged the hell out and ran to Walmart to stock up on shotgun shells and car batteries because hackers appeared to have commandeered the homepage and posted a fake story about the pending zombie apocalypse.

In addition to the "programming alert" bar that was displayed across the top of the page, the featured story on the site was headlined "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" with the subhead "STUFF YO".

The Fox News Twitter feed has been silent, thus far. It's been a rough day for the folks at Fox News as Stephen Colbert and the hilarious @RealHumanPraise took aim at the network last night and, now, they're scurrying around trying to fix their site and/or prepare for the zombie apocalypse.

Chins high, you guys. Tomorrow's a new day.

UPDATE: That zombie story might have been this real piece from 2011. Still doesn't explain the "STUFF YO" or the headline on their main story, though. The site is back to normal.

UPDATE: Fox News blames the issue on "internal production problems."

UPDATE: A Fox News spokesperson reached out to us with an official statement from Fox News Chief Digital Officer, Jeff Misenti:

During routine website maintenance, a home page prototype was accidently moved to the actual site.  As with any mistake in testing, engineers noticed the error and quickly brought the site back to its normal function."
