New Jersey resident Jeff Langum sets Guinness World Record with toothpicks, huge beard

New Jersey resident and Philly native Jeff Langum has honorably held the title of “World’s Best Natural Full Beard” since 2013. Now, along with it and the help of more than 3,000 toothpicks, Langum has another title under his belt.

New Jersey resident and Philly native Jeff Langum has honorably held the title of "World's Best Natural Full Beard" since 2013. Now, along with it and the help of more than 3,000 toothpicks, Langum has another title under his belt.

Earlier this month, an Italian TV show featured Langum attempting to set the Guinness World Record for "Most toothpicks in a beard." The segment aired March 10, and given the 23 inches of Langum's beard, you may not be surprised that he set a new record: 3,157 toothpicks.

The whole ordeal took around 3.5 hours, according to the Courier Post, with Langum beating the previous record by a cool 50 sticks. However, Langum was quick to note that he doesn't have much experience in the toothpick arena.

"I am new to this," he told the Courier Post.

Langum took the "Best in Show" award at the National Beard Championships in 2013, along with the "full beard natural" category at the biannual World Beard and Moustache Championship in Germany that same year. He will defend the latter title again this coming November.

However, perhaps bolstered by his toothpick victory, Langum doesn't seem all that worried:

Langum, who will defend his title in November, says there was no scale to measure its unrivaled thickness, something that helped support the toothpicks.

"There were a lot of beards longer than mine but none of them was nearly as full," he says. "... I think it's curly too. The toothpicks sit really easily.

Langum, who is known as "Whisker Biscuit" to friends and fellow beards, also seems game to take on stunts that go beyond his usual follicular exploits.

"Who knows," he told the Courier Post, "if someone comes up with something else for me to do, I'll do it."
