‘The Sweenie Donut Dog’: Wilmington Blue Rocks announce name for new donut bacon hot dog
Last month, the Wilmington Blue Rocks unleashed their latest stadium food monstrosity upon the Internet and asked for help coming up with a moniker for the beast. Finally, they have picked a name.

Ladies and gentlemen, "baseball's sweetest weenie" shall henceforth be known as:
…The Sweenie Donut Dog?
For a sandwich that includes raspberry jam, bacon, tubular meat, and a Krispy Kreme donut, that's sort of innocuous sounding, and a huge missed opportunity at quality comedy. Our own Philly.com commenters, however, didn't seem to be at a loss there when the Blue Rocks announced the dog last month.
Consider, for example, some of these reader-submitted suggestions:
The Christie Kreme
The Gosnell Special
Diabedog
The Reason I Bought a Ticket to the Blue Rocks Game
Hog in the Honey Hole
Glazed Pork Box
Suicide Squeeze
Death
The chosen name, however, is a shout-out to former Blue Rocks player Mike Sweeney, who went on to play for the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, and Phillies. Sweeney's Blue Rocks number, 33, is retired, so the tribute here is nice, too. Even if it is a weenie.
Either way, the person who submitted that winning name will receive four tickets to the Blue Rocks opening night game on April 16 at Frawley Stadium, and they'll throw out the ceremonial first pitch. With any lucky that night, the Blue Rocks will dive headlong into meaty victory.
If not, though, the Blue Rocks can always take solace in the fact that 6ABC's Rick Williams appears to dig the new dog:
A true honor.
