Tornado: Rating upgraded

The Oklahoma twister has been declared an EF-5, the top category.

Just before 3 our time, the National Weather Service declared Monday's Oklahoma tornado to be an EF-5, meaning it packed sustained winds of 200 m.p.h.-plus.

That "5" is as high as the Enhanced Fujita scale goes.

The latest update also tweaked a few specifics. The survey team calculated the width of the destruction path to be 1.3 miles.

It said that the tornado touched down at 2:45 p.m. at Newcastle, Okla., morphed into an EF-4, with winds up to 200 m.p.h., in about 10 minutes and continued for 17 miles to Moore, peaking as an EF-5.
